Empty streets are the subject

Every early-riser piece ever made shows someone doing something — running, lifting, typing before dawn. This one shows nobody at all.

That's the honest version. The reason the early hours work isn't discipline theatre; it's that nothing is happening yet. No inbox, no traffic, no one asking. The city in this image is completely still, and the light hasn't arrived properly.

Deep black with restrained gold keeps it from tipping into inspirational-poster territory. It's a photograph of an advantage rather than a lecture about one.

Where it goes

Home officeDark enough to sit behind a monitor without glare, quiet enough to look at all day.
Home gymWhere the sentiment is least controversial — and where you actually see it at 6am.
Hallway to the officeThe wall you pass on the way to the desk is underrated. That's the moment the piece is for.
StudioAny room where the work happens before anyone else is awake.

Size and frame

32 × 40″ for a home office. 40 × 50″ if it's the anchor of the room. Below 24 × 30″ the city detail starts to disappear into the dark.

Black frame — the image is black at the edges and the frame should continue it. Oak if the room has wood and you want to take the edge off. White pulls the eye to the border and away from the gold.

Questions

Does it work if I'm not an early riser?

Honestly, it lands harder if you are. If mornings aren't your thing, Protect Your Focus makes a claim you can actually keep.

Is it too dark for a small room?

It can swallow a small dim room. Give it a wall with some daylight nearby, or size down and hang it as part of a pair.

How much text?

Three words, small, gold, at the edge. The image does the work.
